October Teen Book Club Report:

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't written in a while.. I have been super busy with math homework, not even school in general just math. I honestly can not wait until second semester! So done with math...

Anyways...

As some of you probably know, for the month of October the book club book was Every Day by David Levithan. We had this meeting on the last Friday of October I'm pretty sure because the last Monday was Halloween. So yes I should have posted this post more than 3 weeks ago, I'm really sorry guys. But what can I say? I'm a procrastinator. Okay so now that my whole life story is out there, let's get into what actual happened at the meeting.

If you guys don't know what the book is about you can check out my review here: and if you don't feel like reading it, but you really should, here's a brief synopsis straight from Goodreads!

"Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.
There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere.

It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with—day in, day out, day after day."

That's the gist of what the book is about! Also as per usual we had cookies and tea (at the meeting, thank you <3), except this time I think we also had juice and some pop. Now as for the book...

A lot of people found it repetitive, and I kind of agree because it revolved around the whole process of being in a new person's body for only one day, and constantly hearing about the process and doing all the regular activities the person really would do got a little overdone. Especially the parts with Rhiannon a lot of people thought that they just seemed like A was saying "come meet me tomorrow" like every chapter and then just meeting up with her. We also discussed why the author chose to make this a love story because one of my close friends pointed out, and I agree with her, is that this book had a lot of potential especially if it wasn't a love story. A lot of people also liked the first half of the book more than the second. However, some people also agreed that it was really interesting how since he was in a different person's body every day, he got to experience all sorts of bodies of people who had disabilities, or were overweight, or even planning a suicide, and because of this he grew as a person.

A little later on we discussed how A would see your life if he woke up in your body, which was a really fascinating thought, except for the fact that most of us said that we wouldn't seem like anything interesting. And it's pretty true, I said that he probably wouldn't see anything interesting especially if it was a school day, which just goes to show how everyone's life is very routine. This is actually a very inspiring thought for what people should strive for, for life to not be a waste or fly by, people should really try to achieve something or try new things all the time. We also talked about how easy it would be for A to literally be the devil. He has no restrictions and no body so nobody could ever actually catch him. We started talking about this because we were thinking about the crazy doctor and whether or not he was like A and whether or not he was bad. But it just goes to show how good of a person A was, he even did everybody'd homework for them. We talked about if you would actually do this. I said I would, because I believe that it is right but some people said they wouldn't. Aha...

It was mentioned how A had to have parents art some point right, and whether or not they were like him and what happened to them. It would be really interesting if David Levithan actually wrote another novella or something about others like A or his parents. Another thing that came up was the fact that A seemed certain of many things, at times , for example that he was the only one. This was never proven but when A said it close to the begging he seemed pretty certain. We also talked about being stuck in relationships and how you can still be lonely even of you are in a relationship. This was very apparent in Justin and Rhiannon's relationship. Because Justin abused her but she still loved him, it seemed that Rhiannon was always sad around Justin. Another idea that was interesting was that a lot of people considered A to be a guy, me included, but technically he was gender neutral, he was both. A few people thought that this was suggested based on the author's writing style, and I actually agree, I just can't prove it.

Another issue with the book that was brought forth was that it kind of seemed like A was stalking Rhiannon. This was thought of because he literally followed her everywhere and interrupted random people's lives just to drive to her school everyday. He also interfered a lot with her school schedule which I think isn't okay. I would never be able to skip so much school, I would be so lost after. Also the relationship felt kind of forced and fake from Rhiannon's point of view, because she was kind of forced into the relationship. A didn't give her much choice, he just kind of followed her around. Especially at the end, a lot of people thought, that it wasn't really fair how he set her up and didn't really give her a choice. He kind of just left... Towards the end of our discussion we also talked about which bodies were the most memorable. For different people it was different but the mot common were the drug addict (because you could see just how bad the addiction was), the girl who was about to commit suicide (especially since A probably saved her life), and the drunk driving girl (because she killed her own brother). A also contributed positively to almost all the bodies he was in, or didn't do any harm at least, except for Nathan, because he just kind of left him in the middle of the road. Which is why the whole other conflict of the story even started.

Some other things were mentioned that I'll try not too go into too great a detail about. Such as...
A had a big impact on a lot of people's lives, because even talking to someone or a smile can make a difference. He and Rhiannon were similar that way they both noticed people. How does it feel to be ripped from someone's body at 12 (he said painful, but what is the feeling)? Some people really appreciated how he respected Rhiannon when he was in her body, but found it kind of weird how he kept saying that "this is what it feels like to .... (move Rhiannon's body part). Lmao (kind of creepy)... ;) When you love someone you need to make sacrifices. Why do people always want to go to LA, Paris, or New York in books? Benefits of A's condition: you can anonymously stop harm, suicides, and shootings (give in tips).

Okay I know that, that was like a text dump and I'm really sorry but there is literally no structure to our discussions. Even the enter I pressed to separate the paragraphs is too much structure. We just have sooo much to discuss and not enough time, but it's okay because otherwise I would be writing like 2 hours worth of text for you guys!
